Don’t Tickle My Feet

After taking the dogs outside and letting them walk through the wet night grass, I brought them inside to go to bed. Lucy ran straight to Corey to love on him. She adores him so much and the feeling is mutual. He wouldn't let any other dog on our furniture, on him, or let any other animal kiss him. I think this was the moment they fell inlove.

Or maybe it was here…

As I've said before, I love to tease. That's a slight understatement... I live to tease Corey! So of course, I couldn't resist.

I waited until he let her jump on the furniture, then watched as she climbed into his lap and put her paws on his chest and began nuzzling against him. Her paws were just a bit damp not quite wet but enough that I knew he could feel the moisture. I began walking out of the room and called back, "Now Lucy, don't get on the couch you just walked through your own pee."

At that moment, I swear the song, Scat man, started playing and Corey was scrambling so fast that he was moving double time to the music while trying to get off the couch & get her off too. I kept trying to tell him that i was kidding him but I was laughing too hard. I couldn't speak, I could barely catch my breath. It honestly took three attempts before I finally was able to tell him that I was just joking.

When I walked up to him I could still hear his heart pounding. I was just thankful that he was too tired to chase me down. He laughed with relief when I told him what I had done.

Now I'm telling you this so that if you see me walking down the street and I look like Smurfette then that means Corey probably put Kool-Aid in the shower head and got me back.

By the way, how long does it take for the blue to wash off your skin & out of your hair? Does anyone know?
Honestly this was paybacks for tickling my feet, but that's an entirely different post.

All Signs Point to “Go”, Part 2

Once all the travel arrangements were made, it was time to begin making arrangements for the kids while we were away.  This was actually a bit more difficult and they ended up with more of a multi-destination day than we did with our connecting flights.

It was just a little after midnight when I finally crawled into bed and set my alarm to sound just four hours later.  I know it wasn’t much but I was looking forward to those four hours of sleep.  Unfortunately, Corey woke up just an hour and a half later with strong abdominal pains.  He spent the next few hours in pain and discomfort.  ( I will save your stomachs and leave out all the gross details).

I asked him multiple times if he wanted to reschedule the trip, but he was determined to go.  So at 4 a.m., we loaded our sleepy kids into the car to go to my sister’s home (their first stop) for the early morning.  We had to pull the car over once for Corey… he still wasn’t feeling very well (again saving you from the details).  We were able to drop them of and barely make it to our flight on time.  (We were actually five minutes late… 25 minutes to take-off, but the sweet woman at the counter was able to get us on the flight anyway).

At this moment, we felt like our luck was beginning to turn around.  As we landed in Dallas to get onto our connecting flight we were beginning to relax and enjoy ourselves as much as one can while not feeling well.  I had to make a few calls to make further arrangements for the kids.  It had been too late for me to call their “school” the afternoon before when we realized that we would be Houston bound.  The school confirmed that they had an opening and they would be happy to have the kids for the day.  Whew!

We climbed onto the Houston-bound plane excited about being one step closer to having our passports (and one step closer to returning home).  It was still too early to call my sister to check on the kids so I sent her a text letting her know that Corey’s brother was supposed to pick the kids up before lunch and take them to “school” (a Mother’s Day Out program offered by a local church… I really like the curriculum and enjoy the new facts that they learn about Jesus each day they attend).

Then we had another turn of events.  While it was beautiful and sunny outside in Dallas, it was pouring rain, lightening, and thundering in Houston.  The air-traffic control would not let us fly.  So we were stuck on the plane… on the runway… for 30 minutes… and hour… hour and a half… for over two hours.  Once it became apparent that we would not make our appointment on time, I called the passport office and scheduled a new appointment for later that day under Corey’s name.  I called Corey’s brother to see if the “drop-off” went smoothly and asked him if he remembered to get lunches for the kids.  He hadn’t.  He turned around and headed back.  I was so thankful that he was still close to the school, because the last thing that I wanted to think about was my babies and their starving stomachs.  He took the lunches to the School Director, who has more than pleased to see him walk up bearing food.  Situations handled.  No sweat.

I sat back in my plane seat and hoped to get a bit of shut eye while we were waiting.  As I sat there I couldn’t help but feel proud of all the other passengers that were on the plane.  You may think that is silly, but, seriously, I have been on other flights where passengers felt entitled to act like fools, shouting about the obvious wait.  As if there is anything that the flight attendant can do about the weather.  So even though we were waiting for a few extra hours the wait wasn’t made unbearable by others foul attitudes.  I was thankful for their positive attitudes and that Corey wasn’t feeling as bad as he was earlier that morning.

Not much more time had passed before the captain announced that our flight just received the green light to go to Houston.  The timing was great.  We would arrive in Houston in plenty of time to make our later appointment.

Then as the plane was landing we had another hiccup (once again I am sparing you the disgusting details).  I’ll just put it like this, Corey’s body was undergoing something serious.  We had guessed a series of possible ailments… kidney stones (he’s familiar with that one unfortunately), stomach virus, etc.  (I’ll spare the details… who wants to hear about my or my husband’s bodily functions… unless you are in the medical field, then you may actually be hanging on the edge of your seat thinking WHAT IS IT, WHAT’S HE GOT?)

I am in awe at Corey’s determination to stick with the vacation.  I probably would have thrown my hands up in the air back when we realized that we were double booked for the weekend.  (I MAY have told you this before). But not him, that is another reason that I admire that man.

Corey called to make sure that his mother was picking up the kids on time and that all went well.  We are so thankful to our entire family for being able to take “shifts” and watch the kids or taxi them throughout the day to make it possible for us to get our passports.

So we get a taxi and head to the passport office.  Corey was feeling much better by this time.  It was the only time throughout that day that he was himself.  He was so himself that he was singing… LOUDLY… in the passport office.  I kept trying to get him to be quiet.  After all, we had made it this far…. I didn’t want to get kicked out because of his singing as off-key as he possible could.  I was desperate, so I told a boob joke and distracted him.  He forgot all about singing and instead talked anatomy for the next five minutes that we waited in line for them to call our number.  I have to admit I do love the male mind.  There aren’t many things in life that can trump a husband harassing (embarrassing) his wife in a public place.  I truly thank God for giving women that card.  You think I’m joking, HA, I am extremely serious, I do thank God for that often.

I have to say they ran the office very efficiently, we were only there for maybe 30 to 45 minutes and everything was completed.  We were so thankful, and since they were so fast we were going to try to grab a quick bite (it was now 3:00 pm and we still hadn’t eaten anything.  This was definitely not good for my diet.  I’m trying to LOSE fat, not send my body into starvation mode so that it will begin storing fat).  My biggest worry was still Corey though, I didn’t want to even mention food because I wasn’t sure if even the thought of food would make him hurl.  I can honestly say that I didn’t have a strong desire to find out… we had already been down that road a few times and I wasn’t eager to go back.

“To eat or not to eat, that is the question”

As we were trying to decide we ran into two air marshals that pointed us in the direction of a great little diner with a unique burger & sandwich specialty.  I never in a million years would have ordered it if I saw the description on the menu but I am thankful that it was recommended because it was fantastic.  I will try to duplicate it someday for you.  And if I ever get it figured out, I will be happy to post the recipe for you.

After we ate we were back to the airport to try to get earlier flights back to Oklahoma.  (Our original flight didn’t return home until after 1:00 am due to late flights throughout the day).  My mom called to let me know that she had dinner and was on her way to watch the kids.  She was taking the last shift.  She was such a sweetheart to drive (she lives an hour away from us) up after she got off work to stay with them.  Corey & I really are very fortunate to have family that can help in situations like this.  The kids had an action-packed day and after dinner, the park, going for a walk, baths, and books, they crashed hard and went to sleep quickly (all that was just during my mom’s shift… their day was FULL).

Back at the airports, we were listening to our last flight being announced and hoping that our names were close enough to the top on the standby list that we would make it on the plane.

I wasn’t quite to the point of holding my breath, but I was close.  I was ready to be home.  Corey became tired of waiting and took another bathroom break and sure enough, they called our names.  That seemed to be the secret to getting on the plane.  Each time he left for the bathroom, we were called to the desk.  The flight was short & sweet and we were glad to be home by 10:30p.m.  It was a pleasant surprise to be able to visit with my mom before we went to bed.

So after all of that, we are more than excited to go on our vacation.  We have worked for it in more ways than one.

All Signs Point to “Go”, Part 1

So much has been happening in our little world lately that I honestly don’t know where to begin.  I don’t want to leave anything out but since we are all limited on time, I will just share our crazy story from yesterday’s excursions.

A few months ago, a few of our friends called us about a “bargain” vacation that we couldn’t pass up.  And I have to give it to them, they were right the price on that vacation was incredible!  It would have cost us more to stay home then to pack our bags and go sit on a beach in Mexico.  So needless to say, it was a no-brainer.  We told them that we were “in” and were looking forward to relaxing.

However, WE didn’t book our trip immediately like our friends, so we ended up paying a bit more.  Granted the vacation was still a bargain, but knowing that it could have been less expensive hurt just a bit.  We were still excited and looking forward to our vacation.  Corey turned to me and asked if I had my passport, I assured him that I did (even showing it to him).  We are set to go… or so we thought.

I was updating our family calendar a few weeks ago and I asked him about our trip.  I am so excited to be taking a vacation and I love being able to think about it and plan for it… and on those days that are chaotic, I get to close my eyes and think of ocean waves crashing against the shore line and I immediately feel refreshed and well equipped to handle the situations at hand.   Unfortunately, there was a HUGE problem.  Well HUGE for me.  My definition of a HUGE problem and Corey’s definition of a HUGE problem are totally different.  To me…. the house flooding: “Aw, no big deal.  We can clean that up.  No reason to get excited about it.  Shut the water off & grab some towels.”  But if it deals with people… “Oh dear, the sky is falling”.  I am a people-pleaser.  I always have been.  I always want everyone to be happy and comfortable.  And yes, if someone was to ask me for one wish, I would probably ask for world peace among EVERYONE.  (I know it’s not possible and that life may be boring without conflict… but you have NOT met my husband then.  Life will never be boring as long as he is here.  The man is pure entertainment).

Any who, back to updating that calendar (sorry, it is late)… while updating I noticed that we were double booked, but Corey & his calm self took care of everything.  I’m glad that he did, because I would not have been able to do that.  Either way, I would have had to disappoint someone (telling our friends that we couldn’t go on the vacation would have been difficult but I wouldn’t have wanted to miss his lifelong friend’s wedding reception either).  This is one of the reasons that we are so great together.  When our house floods, kids create a disaster, or something needs to be fixed… Corey calls me.  But when the sky falls I have him to come save the day.  Thank you God. :-)

So then on Monday, Corey came to me with another problem.  He didn’t have a passport and couldn’t find his birth certificate.  He asked about mine again.  And I couldn’t wait to show it to him again, (see honey I was responsible).  Then he opened it up.  “Uh Jess, this has your maiden name on it.”

Now I’m thanking God that I kept the responsible comment to myself… otherwise I’d still hear about that one on our 10 year anniversary.  “Remember when YOU claimed that YOU were the responsible one because YOU already had YOUR passport…. with your MAIDEN name on it”.  I love to harass and tease Corey but I am so thankful that I chose not to poke fun at that moment.  That would have been all the ammunition that he needed to tease me back for YEARS.

So there we were, neither of us have passports, with only X amount of days before the trip.  We both wanted to tease the other, but we didn’t have ground to stand on… so we just laughed at each other instead.

Corey went off to work & I called Houston’s passport office, made an appointment, and booked a few flights to Houston for the next day. (I had to use a gift certificate travel voucher that Corey won… we were saving that for another vacation later this year.  It was disappointing, but I was glad to have the voucher and it not be more money out of our pockets).

(To be continued…I’m sleepy…)

Never Say NEVER

For the most part I could say that I gave birth to two of the sweetest, snuggly, loving children.

IMG_9042

I might add, who run VERY fast and love being chased.  His giggles while being pursued are the sweetest sound.

IMG_9107

And who may someday be voted as the class clown.  She loves to see people laugh and will gladly act as goofy as it takes to bring smiles to those around her.

However, like every child they have moments that make me wonder what they are thinking, or if they are even thinking at all.

Life with these two is constant comedy.

Recently I came across an old notebook with so many funny stories of the kids and lists pertaining to them when they were younger.  This one may make you giggle, just plain gross you out, or both.  Enjoy.

********************************

So me of these things I thought that I would never say because of the effect that these words had on me, others are phrases I thought that I would never say because I thought that they sounded ridiculous, and THEN there are the phrases that I thought that I would never NEED to say… or at least I hoped that I wouldn’t..

“Evan stop licking food off your sister’s fingers.”

“Because I said so.” (The classic among all generations).

“Please quit trying to EAT the dogs ears… she doesn’t bite your ears.”

“I know you are tired when we get home you can take a nap, but there’s no reason to be overdramatic and lay down in the street.”  To which my child replied, “I DON’T NEED A NAP… just a very short rest time… like 5 seconds or so but NOT in my bed because I might fall asleep and I DON’T NEED A NAP.”

“Please take your feet off the table, we are at a restaurant.”

While eating lunch with my brother-in-law and one of his buddies, my husband, and the kids…

“Is HE Uncle ____’s boyfriend?”

“No sweetie.  Your uncle doesn’t have a boyfriend, just a girlfriend.”

After being bombarded with more questions at the table with her uncle and his friend directly in front of us, I whispered, “Shhhh, I will tell you what a girlfriend & boyfriend is later tonight.”  I was totally wanting to postpone this conversation until she was 18 years old!

“Please stop spitting your gum in my hand, please put it in the trash.  And please stop trying to put it my hair.”

“Please take the rock out of your mouth.  We don’t eat rocks!!  They hurt your teeth and you could choke on it.” (Do I really need to explain why we don’t eat rocks? seriously).  Just the thought still makes me laugh.

“Stop biting my shirt.  We don’t eat clothes.”  Once again, I am amazed that I have to tell them this… boys are so different from girls!

“I think that it’s awesome that you want to clean up the dog poo, but please use a poo bag or the shovel.  DON’T pick it up with your hands.”  This was my husband… just kidding.  LOL.  He’s going to kill me for that.

“Please don’t lick the spoon that we use to stir the dog food.”

“This is going to hurt me more than it will you.”

“Please stop touching your man-parts.” (I thought that I would have to say that when he was 12 years old, but not 2 years old).

Now that the kids are older, I have many new “Never Sayings”.  So I just may have to have a sequel to this post in the future.  That is, IF your stomachs can handle it.

Time for Change

I have been trying, but my kiddos are not cooperating.  Today has been very full time.  Each time they even see me glance at my laptop, I receive a hundred different requests for games, quality time, help to clean up messes (some I believe were made on purpose… Evan enjoys cleaning up), food, drinks, entertainment, and silly information.

On a different note, Lauren exclaimed that she will NEVER eat meat again.  So our four year old vegetarian will be sadly disappointed to find out that I set out chicken for dinner.

Needless to say it has been an interesting day.

Through all the chaos, today I have been working diligently at trying to install, upload, download and pave the way so that I may make the BIG change.

Hopefully soon I will have the www.amoxiemom.com site up and running.  I will keep everyone posted about the change when & if it happens.  My fingers are crossed and I really hope that I don’t loose any information, photos, tags, or posts.

However, due to my lack of patience… I may end up creating a work of art from the remaining pieces of my laptop after I destroy it.

There’s always a bright side.  :-)

WorkOut Wednesday #9

It usually isn’t until Wednesday rolls around that I realize just how fast time travels and that all the things that I wanted to do throughout the week… well I just didn’t find the time.

I guess you could say that Wednesdays are my new Mondays. UGH!  I have less than three weeks to accomplish my goal.  (I get to take a vacation in 16 days.  Yeah!  But I have to get into a bathing suit.  Just the thought makes me sweat).

I have been walking/ running with my dogs much more often than I was previously and exercising at home this last week.

I am so very thankful for the support from everyone regarding this 12 (very extended) week challenge.  Due to my post last week, I received a few emails from sweet peeps that informed me about the 30 Day Shred DVD.  It sounds like an intense 20 minute workout.  I am a big fan of that!!

I am heading to the store and will hopefully begin the new DVD this morning.  I will keep you posted.
